More college students are stepping up and finishing their studies as a total of 57 scholars of the Aboitiz Group across the country—23 of whom were honor students—successfully completed their college education for the school year 2015-2016. Eleven of this year’s scholars were supported in college by the Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz Group, while the remainder was supported by different Aboitiz business units nationwide, namely AP Renewables, Inc. (MakBan and Tiwi), Visayan Electric Co., Inc., Davao Light & Power Co., Inc., Therma Luzon, Inc., and Pilmico Foods Corporation.

These scholars, hailing from different universities nationwide, are enrolled in different degree courses, mostly in accountancy, business/management, information technology, and engineering,

The Aboitiz Group believes education is where it can make the biggest impact societal impact. In 2015, nearly 60% of the Group’s CSR initiatives or P232 million went to education as the Aboitiz Foundation ramped up its investments that delivered better learning environments to students in communities where Aboitiz operates.

Since the Aboitiz Foundation’s inception, 29,845 scholars have benefited from the Aboitiz Group’s much-needed educational assistance to pre-school, elementary, secondary students, as well as tertiary, technical-vocational, and post-graduate students. The Aboitiz Group currently supports 3,258 scholars nationwide, 324 of whom are college students.

“We are very proud of our scholars as they are clear proof academic excellence can indeed be achieved through hard work and perseverance. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors as we advance our efforts to help improve our country’s educational system,” said Sonny Carpio, Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
