ComVal pre-schoolers get new classrooms from Aboitiz

The Aboitiz Foundation, the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group, and Therma Marine, Inc.-Mobile I recently turned over AGAPP (Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa) “Silid Pangarap” kindergarten classrooms to Concepcion Elementary School in Maco, Compostela Valley.

The turnover was attended by Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Sonny Carpio, Therma Marine Chief Operating Officer Jovy Batiquin and AGAPP Chairperson Pinky Aquino-Abellada. Local government and education officials such as ComVal Governor Arturo Uy, Maco Vice Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire Rimando, Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Josie Bolofer, as well as the principal and teachers of the beneficiary school were also present.

“We in the Aboitiz Foundation believe it is in education where we can create the greatest impact, which is why we do what we can to help make our youth become lifelong learners,” said Sonny Carpio, Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

With education at the forefront of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, more than half of the Aboitiz Foundation’s annual budget goes to projects that support the country’s public education system.

Since 2011, the Aboitiz Foundation and AGAPP have spent over P124 million to build 216 Silid Pangarap classrooms in 108 schools nationwide, benefitting 40,320 preschoolers. Thirty more AGAPP classrooms in 15 schools are slated to be donated by Aboitiz next year as part of the Aboitiz Group’s firm commitment to education.

The DepEd recently recognized the Aboitiz Group as a long-standing partner in the government’s bid to uplift the state of the country’s public education system, and as the Philippines’ biggest contributor to public education.
