Aboitiz units honored at ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit & Awards

Two Aboitiz units were recently recognized for their outstanding sustainability practices at the recent ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit & Awards (ACSSA) held this year in Manila.

WeatherPhilippines Foundation bested other companies in the region in the Product and Service Innovation Category for “[demonstrating] the most innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impacts in the lifecycle of its products and services,” namely for its mobile app enhancements, partner engagement, and technology initiatives.

Holding company Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV), meanwhile, was first-runner up in the Resource Efficiency Category for its “[exemplification] of proper management of resources such as air, water, energy, natural resources, minerals, chemicals, waste, and hazardous substances,” referring to its Race to Reduce 2.0 program that underpins the Aboitiz Group’s commitment to manage resources efficiently and minimize operational footprint.

The ACSSA, organized by the Asia Society for Social Improvement & Sustainable Transformation, aims to support organizations in the process of evaluating their sustainability strategy, performance and goals. The awards, now on its third year, also aim to inspire comprehensive exchange of ideas and best practices in Sustainability in the ASEAN region to identify field models for Sustainability Excellence.

As per ACSSA, organizations stand to gain meaningfully from greater levels of sustainability and accountability; more efficient use of resources; superior workplace standards and practices; increase in productivity; higher levels of trust & transparency; and enriched social dialogue.

“These awards demonstrate the success of our hard work and efforts to create an Aboitiz #BetterWorld, which represents our Group’s sustainability mindset that is anchored on the firm belief that we can do well by doing good, always making the right long-term decisions that balance the interests of people, planet, and profit,” said Erramon I. Aboitiz, AEV President and CEO.

The Aboitiz Group was one of the first local businesses to support the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Central to the SDGs is the idea of caring for the planet and the world’s poorest citizens, which is also at the heart of the Aboitiz BetterWorld mindset.
