Aboitiz-supported school bags top DepEd award

Aboitiz-supported Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. Elementary School (ES) in Taguig City was recently recognized as the Best Brigada Eskwela Implementer 2017 (Division Search, Mega School Category) by the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Taguig City.

“Our school always strives to achieve excellence because every achievement greatly benefits our students. We are grateful that the Aboitiz Foundation chose our school to be its partner in the recent Brigada Eskwela activity. We sincerely hope that our partnership will move beyond this program,” Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. ES Brigada Coordinator Loida Loisa Salvador said.

“It is our continuous hope to have more meaningful partnerships with various institutions such as the public schools and the government. While we are proud that our efforts are recognized, this award challenges us to do more and try harder to provide the students with more conducive learning environments,” said Aboitiz Foundation First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Maribeth Marasigan.

Last May 20, 318 volunteers from various Aboitiz business units participated in the Brigada Eskwela to repaint armchairs and desks at the Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. and repaint classrooms and armchairs at the Upper Bicutan Elementary School. To date the Aboitiz Group, with 2,795 of its team members, has assisted 352 schools through the Brigada Eskwela program, benefitting 207,613 students and repairing/repainting 1,114 classrooms nationwide.

This participation in the Brigada Eskwela activity is part of a larger aim of the Aboitiz Group to improve the quality of public education in the country by providing opportunities for students to have access to a better learning environment. This supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on Quality Education (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all).
