Aboitiz-funded solar lamps to light up Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija

Darkness will no longer be a problem in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Special Operations Command headquarters (SOCOM HQ) in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, thanks to a generous donation of 10 solar lamps from Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) and the Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group.

The 10 solar lamps will directly benefit 2,000 community members and 150 SOCOM HQ personnel in Fort Magsaysay, which is unable to connect to the Luzon grid and is outside the Manila Electric Co.’s franchise area. These solar lamps are environment-friendly and are not easily damaged by external elements. They were already installed by the SOCOM along major roads in the camp.

A memorandum of agreement finalizing the donation—dubbed “Light The Fire Project”—was signed between AEV and the Aboitiz Foundation as well as the AFP last November 23.

“On behalf of the SOCOM of the Philippine Army, I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the Aboitiz Foundation for the generous donation of 10 solar street lamps. With these self-sufficient lamps installed in our camp, SOCOM has become a model that uses clean renewable power energy,” said Brigadier General Danilo G. Pamonag of the Philippine Army’s SOCOM.

“The Aboitiz Group is honored to be a partner of the AFP-SOCOM for this solar lamp project. Through this donation of 10 solar lamps, we hope to be able to address the critical need for sustainable and effective lighting in the area, and bolster the AFP’s efforts in their service to the nation,” Sabin M. Aboitiz, AEV Chief Operating Officer, said.

The Aboitiz Foundation is an organization of compassionate service, one that can be counted on to provide assistance to those in need as part of its thrust to promote Health & Well-Being for a BetterWorld. It is among the first to respond during disasters while providing access to medical services through the help of Aboitiz business units.
