Weather Solutions, PH Red Cross close gap in disaster risk & response management

Weather Solutions, Inc., the first weather-centric social enterprise founded by the Aboitiz Group, recently partnered with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to overcome challenges in disaster risk and response through the use of highly accurate weather data.

As one of its recent clients, PRC will be utilizing Weather Solutions data in its ongoing project entitled “Forecast-based Financing in the Philippines – Closing the Gap between Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Relief.” This is a 36-month project which aims to contribute to the reduction of humanitarian consequences of extreme natural events among high-risk populations.

Implemented under the technical support of German Red Cross and Finnish Red Cross, the project needed the support to assess the forecasts that could be used in the forecast-based financing intervention.

Weather Solutions will address this need by providing a detailed analysis of existing forecasts for extreme weather events. Weather Solutions’ resident meteorologists will also be informing the PRC and its teams of weather-related hazards that shall be considered and recommend next possible steps.

“Weather Solutions seek to address the weather needs and fill in the information gaps of businesses and communities, especially the disaster risk projects being implemented in the country. We are more than glad to be a part of this endeavor and we are ensuring that Philippine Red Cross and its constituents get the best and most accurate weather data possible,” said Weather Solutions President Jojo Z. Marasigan during the A. Lab Tour conducted for PRC.
