Weather Solutions boosts reliability & efficiency of major Luzon dams
A number of hydroelectric dams in Luzon that form a critical part of the island’s electric grid are seen to operate more reliably and efficiently, thanks to the highly-accurate data provided by Aboitiz social enterprise Weather Solutions, Inc.
Hydroelectric power plant operator SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP), through forecasted data, will be able determine the available input in its watersheds and hydropower plants (Magat, Ambuklao, Binga and, Maris) by quantifying rainfall patterns, thus optimizing generation for electricity supply and demand.
SNAP will be able to make sound operational decisions, reassess several existing processes, and develop new methodologies.
“We encourage businesses to start considering and using weather analytics in their operations. As we progress in this engagement with SN Aboitiz Power, we will be on the lookout for more innovative ways to improve their current models,” said Weather Solutions President Jojo Z. Marasigan.
Meanwhile, SNAP President Joseph S. Yu said they will soon create digital dashboards and fully automate real-time monitoring of watershed levels, all of which will be highly dependent on meteorological inputs from Weather Solutions.
