Walter Mart set to expand store footprint, signs 4.7-MW power supply contract with AboitizPower

Community mall pioneer Walter Mart continues its aggressive expansion this year, adding four malls, in line with its target to double its current portfolio of 23 community malls and supermarkets within the next five years.

Walter Mart eyes branches in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Batangas as part of its expansion plans for this year.

To support its growth and sustain its “everyday happy mall” feel among many Filipino families in Metro Manila and Luzon, Walter Mart signed a 4.7-megawatt (MW) power supply contract with AboitizPower under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) regime.

Abraham Uy, chairman of WM Shopping Center Management, Inc., said that having a reliable power supply and a dependable partner will allow Walter Mart to focus on giving its customers a happy shopping experience — with up-to-date facilities and an exciting mix of retail, dining, and shopping options.

“As we grow our portfolio, we need a reliable power supply to ensure convenient shopping for our valued customers every day. We trust that AboitizPower, with its proven track record in power generation and distribution, has the capacity to meet our requirements and help us deliver on our brand promise,” Uy said.

Walter Mart, the only Philippine supermarket that is a member of the International Grocers Alliance (IGA), an international organization of nearly 5,000 trusted hometown supermarkets all over the world, constantly upgrades its facilities to deliver on its customer value proposition, convenience, in all its malls and supermarkets.

At the contract signing between Walter Mart and AboitizPower, Ochie Gloria, AboitizPower First Vice President for Energy Sales and Trading, said signing up with suppliers that have the size, portfolio of power plants and experience in the industry, gives customers peace of mind, knowing their power supply will be reliable.

“We thank Walter Mart for their confidence in AboitizPower and we are excited to work with them as we share the same vision of delivering reliable customer service,” Gloria said.

AboitizPower is one of the Philippines’ leading electric power generation company with a balanced mix portfolio of renewable energy and thermal power plants. Together with its partners, it has a 3,995-MW net sellable capacity to date.

AboitizPower’s power distribution business includes eight distribution utilities (DUs), including the second and the third largest private DUs in the country.
