Turtle sanctuary at Aboitiz Cleanergy Park
SAFE HAVEN. An Olive Ridley Turtle is released to sea last July 10, a week after it laid eggs at the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park in Punta Dumalag, Davao City – a known sea turtle or pawikan sanctuary developed and maintained by the Aboitiz Group. The turtle was brought to the park by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Davao Police to recuperate after it was rescued at the Bucana area last July 3. Present to witness the release were DENR Officer Rey Coligado, Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Manny Gaite, Southern Motors of Davao COO Kim Liu, and Aboitiz Foundation representative Jen Sabianan. The eight-hectare outdoor biodiversity area was launched last April to serve as a learning center, nesting place, and a haven for saved pawikans. “It is already the second time for the Cleanergy Park to house an Olive Ridley turtle. This is an indication that Davao Gulf is still rich in biodiversity,” said Davao Light and Power Company Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon. Davao Light, a unit of Aboitiz Power Corporation, is the third largest distribution utility in the country.
