Tsuneishi Bags Back-to-back Awards at 18th PEZA Night

THICI Chairman Kenichi Mori receives the commendation from PEZA Director-General Lilia De Lima for its outstanding community projects initiated for the benefit of its host communities.

Cebu-based shipbuilder Tsuneishi Heavy Industries, Inc. (THICI) took home back-to-back awards during the 18th Philippine Economic Zone Association (PEZA) Anniversary and Investors’ Recognition Night held in April at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

THICI Chairman Kenichi Mori received the ‘Outstanding Community Project’ and ‘Outstanding Exporter’ awards on behalf of the company from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory L. Domingo and PEZA Director-General Lilia De Lima .

The former recognizes organizations that exemplify best practices in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that generate substantial results to beneficiaries, while the latter, an organization’s outstanding export performance.

PEZA recognized THICI’s significant contribution to its host and neighbouring communities, particularly the town of Balamban in Cebu City where the shipyard is located, and other nearby towns through infrastructure projects, environmental, and scholarship programs.

“These awards are a commendation to all employees and stakeholders of Tsuneishi Group of Companies for upholding the spirit of volunteerism and to the communities where we operate for their unrelenting support ,” said THICI President Hitoshi Kono.

He noted that these awards were not new to the company as it received its first Outstanding Community award in 2010 and Outstanding Exporter award in 2011. It was also named Outstanding Employer in 2010, Outstanding Community Relation in 2004, and Outstanding Environmental Performer in 2003.

THICI is a joint venture between the Aboitiz Group and Japan-based shipbuilder Tsuneishi Group since 1994.
