Siargao homes hit by Typhoon Odette get help from Aboitiz Foundation

Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz  Group, partnered with Barna Hosco Inc., in Siargao Island to help rebuild homes heavily damaged by Typhoon Odette. The rebuilding efforts benefited 13 families.

“The Typhoon Odette devastation amid the COVID-19 pandemic has made life immensely difficult for so many families without roofs over their heads. As #OneAboitiz, the Foundation will continue to provide relief and support rebuilding efforts to help our fellowmen in these trying times.,”  said Aboitiz Foundation President and COO Maribeth L. Marasigan.

Barna Hosco Inc, is a hospitality group dedicated to creating memorable experiences by providing quality services within the tourism industry in Siargao Island, known as the surf capital of the Philippines. The island was one of the heavily devastated areas when Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines last December 16, 2021. After the initial relief operations, the Barna Hosco team together with its partner organizations formed construction teams to help repair the damaged houses in the communities.

“After delivering water, food, medicine and other basic needs to our community, the next mission is to provide our team and their families with proper shelter. We would like to thank the people that have contributed to our relief program. We are beyond grateful to our generous donors and everyone who has collaborated with us for this community program. You’ll always be welcome in Siargao and have a second home in Bravo.” said Barna Hosco Inc.’s Managing Director Alex Gari.

Around 3,000 food packs and drinking water reached typhoon victims in the municipalities of Dinagat, San Jose, Claver, Siargao, and Surigao in Surigao del Sur.

Aboitiz Foundation has allocated more than P16 million for the distribution of relief goods, including food packs, rice, and water, and other in-kind donations to the affected communities in Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Misamis Oriental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan, and Bukidnon.

The Foundation also launched #RebuildCebu, a recovery and rehabilitation campaign through its crowdsourcing platform Kinder by Aboitiz.
