Pilmico moves pet food business closer to consumers in Asia

Pilmico and Gold Coin Group (Pilmico), the food subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group, continues to build a diversified portfolio as it strengthens its pet food business.

For decades, Pilmico has been established as the total solutions provider of quality feeds from hogs to poultry to aquaculture, and recently to pet food. The challenges of the global pandemic pushed the food group to further diversify its portfolio where they saw an opportunity in the growing demand for pet food, paving the way for the launch of its own brands including Maxime, Woofy, and Tommy.

Pilmco’s pet food division aims to bring its products to the different regions of the Philippines and other Asian countries as it aims to become one of the leading regional integrated food and agribusiness companies in the region. Pilmico’s pet food division made significant strides in a short period of time as it strengthened its e-commerce presence and launched cat food earlier this year. Capitalizing on this steady growth, more pet food products that cater to both cats and dogs are already in the pipeline. In the next five years, the food group aims to further solidify its market position by expanding the Visayas, Mindanao, as well as other Asia Pacific regions.

Pilmico is further expanding its production capabilities with the commission of its own pet food line in Vietnam, making its products more widely available in the region. Furthermore, Pilmico’s new Breeder and Nursery Farm in Nueva Ecija that will add 2,500 in sow level with an expected output of 4.7 million kilograms of pork meat annually once it starts operations this year would strengthen food security in the country. The African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak has significantly impacted the swine industry in the past few years, decreasing the supply of local pork against the high demand for pork. As it posed a challenge to the food security in the country, Pilmico took it as an opportunity to build a new breeder farm targeted to augment the local pork supply.

During the height of the global health crisis, the food group was committed to unhampered production and distribution of goods, where customers were able to receive products and serve food on their tables. #
