PDEA Region 13 recognizes Aboitiz Construction for outstanding implementation of Drug-Free Workplace Policy
DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE. Aboitiz Construction Inc.’s THPAL project site has received a prestigious accolade from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 13 for its exemplary efforts in maintaining a drug-free workplace.
Aboitiz Construction Inc.’s Taganito HPAL (THPAL) project site in Surigao del Norte received a plaque of commendation from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 13 for its commitment fostering a safe and drug-free workplace environment through the successful formulation of a comprehensive Drug-Free Workplace Policy and the implementation of the Drug-Free Workplace Program.
The commendation from PDEA is a result of the recent orientation session for Aboitiz Construction team members on the RA 9165 Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act held last October 2023. The session played a crucial role in reinforcing the firm’s dedication to maintaining a drug-free work environment.
A pivotal initiative in this commitment was the random drug testing organized by THPAL in collaboration with PDEA last November 2023. This comprehensive testing covered subjects from THPAL and its contractors, involving approximately 130 Aboitiz Construction workers. Notably, all results from this testing returned negative, affirming the effectiveness of the company’s initiatives in ensuring a drug-free workplace.
“This recognition is a shared achievement, reflecting the dedication and professionalism of each member of our project team. It speaks volumes about our collective commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and well-being,” said Alex Garciano, Aboitiz Construction’s Vice President for Operations Maintenance.
Meanwhile, PDEA Region 13 Officer Wenifredo Alagabia Jr. expressed his commendation to Aboitiz Construction and hoped that the team will continue to adhere to safety standards.
Affirming the company’s commitment to health and safety, Aboitiz Construction was recently recertified with 45001:2018 which is the management systems standard for sound occupational health and safety performance. In addition, last June, the said site achieved 10 million safe man-hours without lost time injury in its maintenance works.
