CitySavings spearheads Project Tulong Dunong in MIMAROPA

City Savings Bank, Inc. (CitySavings) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 4B (MIMAROPA) initiated rehabilitation efforts for nine schools under the Divisions of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro and El Nido, Palawan which were badly affected by the series of heavy flooding brought about by the southwest monsoon (Habagat).

Through Project Tulong Dunong, over 1,600 learners and more than 70 public school teachers from Bucayao Elementary School, Bucayao National High School, Buhuan Elementary School, Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Caguisikan Elementary School, Gutad Elementary School, Nag-iba Elementary, Nag-iba National High School in Oriental Mindoro, and El Nido National High School in Palawan received teaching, learning, first aid, and emergency kits. Classrooms in these areas were filled with mud and most of the school supplies were either ruined or washed away.

During the rehabilitation effort, Marissa Togado, Regional Business Head for Region 4A and 4B shared, “We don’t know when a calamity will strike the communities that we serve but as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, CitySavings is here to lend a helping hand and alleviate the needs of our public schools by giving assistance to regain what they have lost during this tough times”.

Sixteen bank personnel from Calapan and Puerto Princesa branches assisted in the packing and distribution of kits as well as cleaning of classrooms of the affected schools last October.

“I am glad and thankful to City Savings Bank because they helped us and our school to be in good condition once again. They provided us learning kits and with this I’m further inspired to do well in my studies” shared Pamela Jane Atienza, Grade 9 student from Bucayao National High School.

Melanie Del Rio, a teacher from the same school expressed her gratitude to the bank, “CitySavings’ support is significant to us because they are always available to help not just in times of calamity but they continuously support the community to achieve quality education.”

“On behalf of the faculty and students, I’m deeply grateful and honored to receive the medical kits from City Savings Bank. We all know that the number of enrollees has increased particularly in the last five years. And with this comes the immediate needs of more students regarding health and well-being while they are in our custody. These kits will surely be very beneficial as our students as continue to strive for academic excellence” shared Anson Paredes, Principal from El Nido National High School.

The rehabilitation effort is part of the bank’s commitment to disaster response and consequently fulfills its purpose to drive change for a better world.
