CitySavings gives assistance to typhoon affected schools in Northern Samar

City Savings Bank, Inc. (CitySavings) through its Catarman Branch headed the Department of Education’s (DepEd) call for assistance by spearheading relief operations to 12 public schools in Northern Samar last January 16 and 22.

A total of 2,400 learning kits were distributed to Nenita Central Elementary and National High School, Cahiksan Elementary School, Cagmanaba Elementary School, Hinabangan Elementary School, Mirador Elementary School, Canawa Elementary School, San Jose Elementary School, Imelda Elementary School, Flormina Elementary School, Santa Catalina Elementary School and San Isidro Elementary School.

“The immediate assistance our school children need is the provision of school supplies. This is to at least encourage them to go back to their classrooms, their second home, and be able to give hope and muster courage to stand on their own feet again”, said Schools Division Superintendent Carmela Tamayo.

Classrooms in these areas were filled with mud and most of the school supplies were ruined or washed away due to heavy flash floods brought about by Tropical Depression Usman.

Salamat po sa binigay niyong mga school supplies. Dahil sa tulong niyo, napalitan na ang aming mga nabasang gamit at may masusulatan na muli kami (We grateful for the new set of school supplies we have received. Because of this we will be able to study again)”, shared Grade 5 student Jellain De Francisca from Imelda Elementary School.

Teacher Gretel Grace Olango, who comes from the same school, mentioned that “An integral part to a child’s success in school is to make sure they have the proper classroom supplies. As a teacher, I am thankful for CitySavings’ commitment to bridge the gap and immediately provide assistance that will empower both learners and teachers”.

This initiative is CitySavings’ commitment to disaster response to fulfill our purpose of driving change for a better world.
