Banking on Data Science, AI to become “Techglomerate”

Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI) is steering progress in the areas such as financial inclusion and emission reduction by operationalizing Data Science and AI (DSAI) as part of the Aboitiz Group’s purpose to drive change for a better world. The company continues to develop data- driven solutions enabling and accelerating the transformation of the Aboitiz Group as the Philippines’ first “Techglomerate.”

Its DSAI team has developed and deployed enhanced AI-powered alternative credit scoring and risk models to increase financial inclusion and improve risk management in loans application. These models make it possible for Union Bank of the Philippines and its tech arm UBX to provide loan offerings to a broader range of individuals and small businesses who may have not qualified under traditional scoring methods while protecting their interests.

ADI also develops solutions that directly or indirectly addresses climate change and sustainability. Game-changing innovations developed by ADI and a number of business units across the Aboitiz Group contribute to minimizing the impact of its businesses to the environment. ADI and Republic Cement employed the 28- day Cement Compressive Strength Predictive Modeling Tool that effectively improved the consistency of cement products. While initially developed to increase operational efficiency and productivity, the AI-powered modeling tool resulted in sustainability outcomes through reduced annual CO2 emission and power consumption in cement production.

According to ADI, DSAI allows the Aboitiz Group to discover infinite possibilities across industries and functional areas. The company also continues to unlock the potential of ecosystems anchoring on data, and champion cross-industry and cross-sector collaborations to increase financial inclusion, reduce environment-profit trade-offs in areas where it has presence, and enable renewable energy options in the country and in the region. #
