AboitizPower’s TVI project reaches 20 million safe man-hours

Work on AboitizPower’s baseload power plant in Toledo City, Cebu reached 20 million man-hours without a single Lost-Time Injury (LTI) as it approaches completion this year.

To celebrate this milestone, the teams behind the construction of the Therma Visayas Energy Project (TVEP) held a thanksgiving activity last January 26.

“Reaching this new milestone demonstrates the team’s dedication to safety as well as consistency in pursuing an incident and injury-free workplace,” said Sebastian Lacson, AboitizPower Coal Business Unit President and Chief Operating Officer
The TVEP officially clocked the achievement on January 3, 2018.

Construction of the 340-megawatt baseload power plant in Barangay Bato, Toledo City, Cebu started last April 2015. The project employs more than 2,000 workers on-site.

Now 95 percent complete, the plant is expected to be able to provide much needed baseload power supply to the grid in 2018.

Lacson emphasized that the company’s performance reflects its firm commitment to health and safety.

“TVI is fully committed to ensuring that every person at site, organic or contractor, returns home safely,” he said.

Lacson recognized the valuable contribution of TVI, project contractor Galing Power and Energy Corporation (GPEC), its subcontractors, and other key stakeholders toward achieving this latest safety milestone.

Furthermore, he stressed that accomplishments in safety are the direct results of the proactive commitment and continuous efforts of the team to attain safety excellence.

Another milestone worth noting is the successful synchronization of the TVEP’s first unit with the grid earlier last month.

The plant is a joint venture between AboitizPower and Vivant Energy Corporation.
