AboitizPower supports Nestle’s Net Zero journey

AboitizPower supports Nestle’s Net Zero journey

Nestle Philippines, one of the country’s largest corporations, continues to champion sustainability as it recently declared bigger and bolder commitments towards a net zero future. A key step in this journey is Nestle Philippines’ use of 100% clean and renewable energy from AboitizPower’s MakBan geothermal power plant.

AboitizPower, together with its partners, is currently the largest owner and operator of renewable energy in the country based on installed capacity. The company has been Nestle Philippines’ Cleanergy partner since 2013 and today, it is supplying about 24.46 MW of clean and renewable energy to Nestle Philippines’ factories in Luzon, as well as its head office in Makati City.

At the recently held 2021 Net Zero Fair, AboitizPower Head of Commercial Operations Business Unit, Juan Alejandro Aboitiz, highlighted the value of renewable energy to Nestle’s net zero journey.

“Through the supply of Cleanergy to Nestle Philippines, we are able to reduce greenhouse gas in the equivalent amount of 24,736 cars driven in a year, or 12.8 million gallons of gasoline consumed, or 14 billion smartphones charged. We look forward to continuing this journey with Nestle Philippines in growing their business and helping them achieve their sustainability goals even beyond their need for renewable energy,” Aboitiz said.

Aboitiz also added that Nestle’s net zero targets are very much aligned with AboitizPower’s 10-year strategy of significantly growing its Cleanergy portfolio. The company aims for a 50:50 balance between its Cleanergy and thermal capacities by 2030, in an effort to help build the country’s renewable energy market and contribute to the global sustainability goals.

In the next 10 years, AboitizPower is heavily investing in renewable energy, focusing on wind, hydro, and solar, and also expanding into other technologies such as battery.

AboitizPower and Nestle Philippines’ long-term partnership is proof that organizations with large energy requirements can switch to more sustainable business operations and help build a more sustainable future through clean and renewable energy. #
