Aboitiz volunteers aid over 5,000 families during ‘Urduja’ & ‘Vinta’ relief efforts

Over a hundred Aboitiz Group team members spent their holiday break volunteering for the relief operations to assist 6,000 families affected by flash floods brought by typhoons Urduja and Vinta in Visayas and Mindanao.

Team members from various Aboitiz business units (BUs) helped pack and distribute relief kits containing hygiene kits, mats, and blankets during simultaneous outreach activities from December 23 to 29.

The relief operations in Davao City and Davao del Norte is a collective effort of the BUs in Mindanao: AboitizPower subsidiaries Davao Light and Power Company, Therma South Inc., and Hedcor, Inc. together with Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc., and in coordination with the Davao City Social Service and Development Office.

In addition, the Aboitiz Foundation and same BUs in Mindanao donated 6,152 liters of drinking water to displaced families in Davao City during  Christmas Eve.

“The experience taught me to be a team player; that working together as a team is fun. As we serve, the impact we make in other people’s lives makes the job even more fulfilling,” Karen Laurito, an accountant in Apo Agua, said.

Meanwhile, 300 boxes of The Care Package High Energy Biscuits and other food packs were distributed to hundreds of families severely affected in Cagayan de Oro and two municipalities in Biliran through the help of team members of the Aboitiz food BU Pilmico.

“We are thankful for all the Aboitiz team members who volunteered their time and effort to aid us in the relief operations. Without their help, we will not be able to respond quickly. We take pride in having team members who truly contribute in advancing business and communities,” Aboitiz Foundation First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Maribeth Marasigan said.
