Aboitiz to mobilize future innovators at Decode Tomorrow hackathon

Over 1,000 game-changing talents in the field of information technology are all gearing up to solve the latest business- and community-oriented challenges and demonstrate their tech know-how at Decode Tomorrow: The Aboitiz Future Challenge Hackathon.

Taking place from Nov. 10 to 11 at the Metrotent in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Decode Tomorrow–said to be the biggest of its kind yet–brings together the Aboitiz Group’s business units in harnessing the power of technology as driver of positive change.

“We bring together our purpose and innovation to up the stakes and build a community of  cause-driven radicals, calling on them to Decode Tomorrow with tech for good – good business and good communities,” said Erramon I. Aboitiz, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer.

Decode Tomorrow: The Aboitiz Future Challenge Hackathon is a clear demonstration of two of the Aboitiz Group’s core values: innovation, or better ways to provide efficient systems, quality service, and products; and teamwork, or a multi-disciplinary approach to achieving business goals–working independently while promoting cooperation and mutual respect.

“In everything we do, our highest aspiration is to advance business and communities. Why should innovation and technology be an exception?” Aboitiz added.

To join Decode Tomorrow, start-up entrepreneurs, freelancers, and even 2nd to 4th year college students are given until Nov. 10 to form groups of three to five and take a crack at various hackathon challenges using various technologies such as intelligent applications, immersive experience, the Internet of Things such as Big Data and Predictive Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation, etc., or a hybrid of these methods.

In typical hackathon fashion, hacker-participants are given 24 hours to “hack” the challenge, after which they will be asked to produce and pitch to a judging panel a working prototype (software or hardware) of their chosen challenge.

Judging criteria will include idea quality, sustainability, potential impact, application intelligence, and demonstration, as well as innovation, business impact, and overall quality.

Should the hacker-participants present a successful pitch, they may be called in by various Aboitiz Business Units to pitch again to further collaborate, incubate a solution towards proof of concept, launch and thru to commercialization, if viable.

Successful teams or individuals will have the chance to be mentored by our business and tech leaders in partnership with StartUp Village, a one-stop incubator services company that enables startups to bring unique ideas and business concepts to reality.
