Aboitiz-supported school wins DepEd award

Aboitiz-supported school Tipas Elementary School (ES) in Taguig City was recently recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Taguig City and Pateros as third place Best Brigada Implementer 2016 for the Exceptional School Category.

Tipas ES School Principal Dr. Ma. Cheryl Fernandez received the certificate of award during the awarding ceremony and stakeholders forum held at the division conference room. Joining her were Chief Education Program Supervisor Isidro Aguilar, Tipas ES Brigada Coordinator Vivien Batobato, Aboitiz Foundation Accounting Manager Riza Madrid, and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Samson.  During his speech, Dr. Samson highlighted that the Brigada Eskwela activity was a product of collective effort from all sectors of society.

Last June 4, a total of 283 volunteers from Aboitiz Aviation, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Aboitiz Foundation, AboitizLand, AboitizPower, Pilmico, SN Aboitiz Power, Therma Luzon, WeatherPhilippines, and PETNET took time off from work to repaint the interior and exterior walls, ceilings, doors, blackboards, window grills, desks, and windows of 12 classrooms at Tipas ES, as part of the company’s annual groupwide Brigada Eskwela activity. They were also joined by several Aboitiz scholars and Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit alumni.

Since 2008, the Aboitiz Group, through the Aboitiz Foundation, has been actively participating in the annual Brigada Eskwela of DepEd, with a total of 11,100 Aboitiz volunteers helping repaint and repair 1,234 schools nationwide.

The Aboitiz Group has long been supportive of the country’s public education system, believing this is where the Group can make the biggest impact. The Aboitiz Foundation’s most important goal is to achieve universal public education by establishing more Aboitiz BetterWorld schools that promise a better learning environment. This, in turn, supports one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically on Quality Education (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all).
