Aboitiz sends over P4M in relief aid to over 20,000 families in Marawi City
The Aboitiz Foundation, the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group, has extended P4.2 million worth of food and relief aid to families affected by the recent military clashes in Marawi City.
Beginning May 24, the Aboitiz Foundation and Aboitiz food business unit Pilmico donated relief goods (water, biscuits, noodles, sardines, and bed foam), pan de sal, and 70,000 Pilmico-developed The Care Packages high-energy biscuits. These were distributed through various partners and have benefitted approximately 20,000 families.
The Care Package contains packs of 100-gram high-energy biscuits loaded with 450 kilocalories (equivalent to one full meal) each, designed as an efficient relief solution that not only addresses hunger but provides adequate nutrition via a sustainable food supply.
During disasters or emergencies when viable food sources are scarce and time is of the essence, The Care Package serves as an effective emergency provision. Each 100-gram pack contains 450 kilocalories with essential vitamins and nutrients that is equivalent to one full meal. The Care Package is ready to eat, easy to store and easy to transport – all in a pack of tasty vanilla biscuits.
“The Aboitiz Group is saddened by the violence currently taking place in Marawi City in Lanao del Sur, and we hope that a peaceful resolution be reached soon. Through Care Packages, we hope we can support the ongoing peace efforts and ease the burden of our displaced brothers and sisters in this time of need,” Maribeth L. Marasigan, Aboitiz Foundation First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said.
“Pilmico as well as the Aboitiz Foundation enjoins the local community in extending help to those affected by this conflict,” Marasigan added.
The Aboitiz Foundation drives change for a better world through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs by co-creating communities that are safe, empowered, and sustainable. As part of its Health and Well-Being for a BetterWorld program, the Foundation ensures it is among the first to respond in times of disaster or emergencies. This, in turn, supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically on Good Health and Well-Being.
As of end-2016, there have already been over 150,000 direct beneficiaries of Aboitiz disaster relief operations since 2012.
