Aboitiz seals membership to the SDG Stakeholders’ Chamber and pledges commitment to the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development
The Aboitiz Group continues to transform the future of the country and the world into a sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive one. As it charges forward with its own Great Transformation journey, Aboitiz ensures that the sustainability of its journey is strengthened by inter-societal collaborations and partnerships. With this in mind, the Aboitiz Group—along with representatives from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and 41 other members and representatives—took part in the recent Pledging of Commitment Ceremony of the Stakeholders’ Chamber on Sustainable Development Goals. The Chamber seeks to drive the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Aboitiz hosted the hybrid event in its very own headquarters in Taguig City, bringing together representatives from the public and private sectors under one roof for the momentous event. The Aboitiz Group was represented in the ceremony by Chief External Affairs Officer DJ Sta. Ana and First Vice President – Chief Reputation and Sustainability Officer Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar.
In her welcoming remarks, Hontiveros-Malvar highlighted how sustainability has always been part of the Aboitiz lifeblood. “For the Aboitiz Group, sustainability is not separate from doing business, but rather, it is a way of doing good business. Sustainability is and will always be very much part of our mainstream business processes and goals. Our strong governance has empowered us to build a strong sustainability framework by which we can manage ESG-related risks and opportunities, account for our impact and contribution to the SDGs, and continue our financial growth and long-term value creation for all our stakeholders,” she said.
NEDA Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie G. Edillon gives the keynote message at the Pledging of Commitment Ceremony, emphasizing the importance of government and private sector partnerships
NEDA Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie G. Edillon, who gave the keynote message during the event, recognized the importance of synergy between government and the private sector efforts to achieve the SDGs. “There is a need to reach out and include everyone in our future of matatag, maginhawa, and panatag na buhay… We hope to broaden the non-government actors’ sphere of influence by joining the Stakeholders‘ Chamber. We want to create an environment where we can integrate different perspectives, where we can rely on your expertise in your respective sectors, and where we can rely on our well-aligned partnerships to achieve the SDGs,” Usec. Edillion said.
The Aboitiz Group has always been passionate about working towards a sustainable and equitable future that benefits its communities, customers, partners, and stakeholders. It outlined these commitments and initiatives more clearly with the launch of its #OneAboitizSustainability Framework last year, to more strongly communicate its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts.
The Stakeholders’ Chamber on Sustainable Development Goals was launched by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in 2020, with the objective of becoming a venue to promote understanding, develop ownership, and facilitate the emergence of well-aligned partnerships for the achievement of the SDGs. It also serves as a platform of engagement between government and non-government actors for better resource management and coordination of the SDG targets and goals.
