    Aboitiz joins the Global Compact Network Philippines Board of Trustees

    The Aboitiz Group is set to represent the Philippines and help champion the country’s sustainability initiatives on an international level via the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

    Ana Margarita “Ginggay” Hontiveros, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. Vice President for Reputation Management, was elected on March 2, 2021 to the Board of Trustees of Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP), the UNGC’s local entity.

    Hontiveros is one of two Filipinos elected to the GCNP board, the other being Rondell Torres, Unilever Philippines Senior Manager for Sustainable Business.

    Hontiveros brings to the GCNP Board her expertise and experience in sustainability. She currently oversees the Aboitiz Group’s brand, creatives, corporate communications, and sustainability programs.

    The election of a new GCNP Board ensures the continued advancement of a better quality life through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the development of a sustainable Filipino business community.

    Last year, Aboitiz Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sabin M. Aboitiz joined over 1,000 CEOs from more than 100 countries in signing the UNGC Statement for Renewed Global Cooperation.

    “Our continued support to the UNGC Philippines aims to inspire and promote collaboration primarily among business corporations with support from the government, academe and NGOs so that companies may practice the 10 Principles and a wider scope of programs to address the Philippines’ SDG goals and better recovery from the impacts of the pandemic,” Aboitiz said. UNGC Philippines works with different organizations to promote 10 business principles aligned to the principles of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

    Aboitiz is looking at positive impacts to SDGs in terms of its business value chain by providing access to affordable and clean energy, SDG 7; by contributing to food security through food production and agricultural feeds, SDG 2 (zero hunger); providing access to clean water, SDG 6 (clean water); creating innovative concepts translated into a thriving residential communities, SDG 11 (sustainable communities); and co-creating innovations for our customers, SDG 9  (development of innovative infrastructure).

    Further, Aboitiz also champions providing an enabling, decent and sustainable work environment through its programs on safety & health, strong employee engagement all aligned with contributing solutions for SDG 8 , climate friendly business practices by strategizing on potential climate impacts (SDG 13), and maintaining a balanced ecosystem for life below water (SDG 4), and life on land (SDG 15).
