Aboitiz Group holds Scholars General Assembly and Career Clinic

About 400 Grades 11 and 12 Aboitiz scholars converged in Cebu City last June 25 during the Aboitiz High School Scholars General Assembly and Career Clinic, where they gained valuable educational lessons applicable during and after college.

Aboitiz High School Financial Assistance Program scholars of the Aboitiz Foundation and Aboitiz units Visayan Electric Co., Inc., East Asia Utilities Corporation, Cebu Private Power Corporation, as well as Aboitiz partners Banilad Center for Professional Development and Science and Technology Education Center joined the event.

The career clinic’s plenary session was facilitated by Mr. Gabriel Billones, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Y Loop Digital Solutions, a Manila-based agency specializing in digital innovation for social causes and advocacies. He provided insights on responsible digital citizenship, providing guidance to the scholars on how to be effective online brand ambassadors of the Aboitiz brand and the academic institution that they represent.

Grade 11 scholars learned about excelling in senior high school tracks from Department of Education’s Senior Education Program Specialist Jona Valdez. Meantime, Grade 12 scholars learned about the Commission on Higher Education’s student financial assistance programs and priority courses from CHED Region VII Program Supervisor Melissa Castillote. They also came to know of CHED’s Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UNIFAST), a student loan program, from CHED Region VII Project Technical Staff Daniel Malunjao.

“More than the support we give by way of financial assistance and scholarships, we hope that through our guidance, you will strive to excel and live out the values of integrity, teamwork, innovation, and responsibility. In the future, we hope you will look back to this day as the fuel that ignited a strong desire to advance business and communities. We hope that whatever you learned — or will learn — in school and from us, hones you to become nation-builders and our reliable partners in co-creating safe, empowered, and sustainable communities,” said Aboitiz Foundation’s First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Maribeth Marasigan.

The Aboitiz Group’s high school and college Academic Excellence Awardees were also recognized. For school year 2018-2019, there were four (4) Cum Laude, and two (2) Magna Cum Laude Aboitiz Foundation scholars who each received a certificate of recognition and cash incentive from the Foundation.

The Aboitiz High School Scholars General Assembly and Career Clinic is an annual event that gathers high school scholars to engage them and provide learning sessions that are supplemental to their academic undertakings. It is also the venue where they receive financial assistance for the school year.
