Aboitiz Group & DepEd partner to empower more public high school students

EBU CITY — The incidence of poverty in many parts of the Philippines restricts many parents from sending their children to school. In the case of the progressive city of Cebu, many students are still in dire need of educational assistance resulting to a number of youth losing vast opportunities for growth.

Recognizing this need, AboitizPower business unit Cebu Private Power Corporation and the Aboitiz Foundation partnered  with the Department of Education to give opportunities to public school students to pursue their secondary education.

“We in the Aboitiz Foundation strongly believe that an empowered youth is an empowered nation. This is one of the reasons why we continue to invest in implementing education projects, as part of our efforts in co-creating safe, empowered, and sustainable communities. We want to be a trusted partner in the development of as many partners as possible and of the communities our partners belong to,” Aboitiz Foundation First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Maribeth Marasigan expressed.

This partnership provides scholarships to 30 Grade 11 senior high school students from Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City. The scholars, identified based on their school performance and residency, will be assisted for five years, until they graduate from senior high school.

To date, the Aboitiz Group has assisted 2,584 high school scholars nationwide. This is part of the group’s larger goal of developing young Filipinos as lifelong learners.
