The ASEAN Innovation Business Platform (AIBP) Conference & Exhibition Philippines 2022 held last November 15 dove straight into engaging and value-adding activities with its keynote Innovation Leaders Panel. Featuring Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) Chief Financial Officer Manuel Lozano, the discussion panel focused on the conference’s theme “Navigating the Intersection of Sustainable Growth, Business, and Technology”.

There were three topics that guided the discussion, namely creating stakeholder engagement through innovation, innovating for sustainability, and partnerships and collaborations for innovation.

“For Aboitiz, technology will power sustainability. Our Great Transformation to become the first Philippine techglomerate is our way to exponentially grow the business and utilize technology to have better sustainability impacts at scale,” said Lozano.

The Great Transformation is the Aboitiz Group’s growth strategy, taking on the key lessons it has learned from a century of being in business. It means taking advantage of the latest technologies with a revitalized entrepreneurial and innovation-driven mindset. There were countless success stories at the intersection of sustainable growth, business, and technology the Aboitiz Group has experienced over the course of its transformative year for Lozano to share.

“Data Science has been the core differentiator for Aboitiz. Our data-driven approach in decision making is helping us to have deeper insights and understanding, efficiency, identify risks and opportunities, and solve complex problems,” continued Lozano.

POWERED BY TECHNOLOGY. The Therma South plant of AboitizPower in Davao del Sur uses a Digital Twin, or machine learning aided diagnostics, to detect early warning systems of asset failures for a predictive maintenance approach. The Digital Twin aids the site operation and management team to monitor critical assets around the clock, and it continually adapts to the changing and dynamic operating conditions.

“A notable example is creating Digital Twins of AboitizPower plants to avoid productivity losses in its operations. The data provided by this Digital Twin was able to save costs and achieve the plant’s availability and reliability targets,” he added.

The rousing and insightful panel discussion set the tone for a successful conference where attendees could pick up best practices in order to identify trends and opportunities to develop their businesses.

Joining Lozano for the keynote discussion panel were Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for ICT Industry Development Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Division Chief – Innovation and Collaboration Karl Lyndon Pacolor, UDENNA Chief Innovation Officer and DITO COO Dr. Donald Patrick Lim, and Kyndryl Philippines Territory Sales Leader Catherine Palma. The discussion was moderated by AIBP Director Irza Fauzan Suprapto. #
