Aboitiz Group awards 20 college scholarships for school year 2017-2018
Twenty (20) qualified college students from all over the country will be continuing and completing their studies this year with the help of the Aboitiz College Scholarship Program (ACSP).
In a ceremony at the Aboitiz Corporate Center in Bonifacio Global City last June 21, the 20 college students—following a rigorous application process that ran from February 1 to March 24—were awarded scholarships designed to support and inspire them to value, appreciate, and make the most of their education. This is in addition to the various scholarships being provided by the Aboitiz Foundation, the Aboitiz Group’s social development arm.
This year also represents the ACSP’s largest single batch to date.
Present during the awarding ceremony were Txabi Aboitiz, the Aboitiz Group’s Chief Human Resource Officer and Nina Pedro, Vice President for Human Resources.
“We believe that a good education is the powerful foundation exceptional leadership is built on. We are therefore supportive of programs such as the ACSP that champion academic excellence and shape tomorrow’s leaders,” Aboitiz said.
“We will continue to advance business and communities through various Aboitiz programs, contributing to the greater good, contributing to making our society better,” he added.
As part of the Aboitiz Group’s commitment in developing future talents and leaders that will drive change for a better world, the Aboitiz College Scholarship Program (ACSP) provides financial assistance, holistic learning and experience and exposure, and mentoring partnerships to undergraduate students pursuing degrees related to Accountancy, Business / Management / Finance, Information Technology, Engineering, Communications and Social Sciences (Psychology, Economics, and Political Science).
Financial assistance under ACSP covers tuition and miscellaneous expenses, book requirements and transportation needs. The scholarship is renewable every semester, for as long as the student maintains the 85% grade point average requirement (or its equivalent) and makes normal progress toward a degree.
“I am really humbled to be part of this program. I also think this will be an opportunity to be really active and make a difference,” says Charles Flores, an Accountancy student from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, the very first ACSP scholar from his school.
“I feel honored to have made my parents proud. Mapupunan na yung mga kailangan namin, because right now we have lots of debts. I can see we have a great future ahead because we are provided an opportunity to grow our passion and face the future,” says Czarina Bastasa, an Information Systems student from the University of Sto. Tomas.
As of end-2016, Aboitiz is supporting the education of 227 college students nationwide, 67 of which are ACSP scholars. To date, the ACSP program has already produced 49 graduates in 10 years. There are also 10 ACSP scholars currently working for AboitizLand, AboitizPower, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, CitySavings, and UnionBank.
ACSP is part of the Aboitiz Group’s Future Talents Program, which also includes the Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit (AFLBS), Aboitiz Legal College Scholarship Program for Excellence, Aboitiz Internship Program, as well as business unit initiatives such as AboitizPower’s Power 101 series, AboitizPower Distribution’s Cadetship Program, UnionBank’s Management Trainee Program (LEAD), and Pilmico’s Junior Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Congress.
For the remainder of 2017, the Aboitiz Group is expected to roll out its Internship Program and other Student Organization Partnerships, while this year’s AFLBS, which will be held from November 9 to 11 in Cebu City, is currently accepting applications until June 30.
