Aboitiz Foundation renews ties with education partners, awards college scholarship grants in Cebu Save Share

CEBU CITY – Living up to its commitment of providing accessibility to quality education, the Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group, recently reaffirmed and strengthened its partnership with the private and public sectors here through the signing of a memorandum of agreement and turnover of financial assistance.

The Aboitiz Foundation inked an agreement with the Department of Education – Region VII and handed out checks to the Banilad Center for Professional Development, The Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc., and the City Social Welfare and Development Offices in Lapu-Lapu and Talisay cities for the continuous implementation of various scholarship programs in Cebu.

Meanwhile, a total of 43 college scholars were also awarded with scholarship grants by the Aboitiz Foundation during its Comprehensive Scholarship Program Awarding Ceremony held last month at the Emerald Ballroom of Harold’s Hotel in Cebu City.

“To all our scholars, we encourage you to take full advantage of the scholarship and the opportunities that come your way. Without a doubt, you all have the potential to achieve great things and make a difference,” said Sonny Carpio, Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Aboitiz Group currently supports 3,267 scholars nationwide, 320 of whom are college students. The Foundation alone supports 312 scholars in Metro Manila and 1,500 scholars in Cebu. This year, a total of 57 scholars of the Aboitiz Group across the country—23 of whom were honor students—successfully completed their college education.

The Aboitiz Group has long been supportive of the country’s public education system, believing this is where the Group can make the biggest impact. The Aboitiz Foundation’s most important goal is to achieve universal public education by establishing more Aboitiz BetterWorld schools that promise a better learning environment. This, in turn, supports one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically on Quality Education (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all).

In 2015, nearly 60% of the Group’s CSR initiatives or P232 million went to education as the Aboitiz Foundation ramped up its investments that delivered better learning environment to students in communities where Aboitiz operates.
