Aboitiz Construction looks to China for expansion opportunities

Aboitiz Construction, Inc. (ACI), the privately-held construction arm of the Aboitiz Group, recently visited two large companies in China in its efforts to explore further business opportunities overseas – Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation III (SEPCO3) and Dongfang Electric Company (DEC).

ACI Chairman Jaime Jose Aboitiz, who led the team, was accompanied by ACI President and Chief Operating  Officer Alberto Ignacio, Jr. and ACI First Vice President for Business Development, Marketing, Sales & Estimating Felma Yap.

The visit aimed to strengthen the firms’ interest to partner with ACI, specifically for power projects, as well as other infrastructure projects in the Philippines under the Build, Build, Build Program of the government.

SEPCO3 is a Chinese construction and engineering company that designs, builds, operates and owns power plants.  The company offers the construction of power plants through the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) method on a turnkey lump sum basis. Moreover, SEPCO3 also develops power plant projects through the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BOO(T) Build-Operate-Own(-Transfer) methods.

DEC is one of the most influential enterprise groups under the direct administration of the Chinese Central Government. For over half a century, DEC has become a comprehensive group specialized in the manufacturing industry, research and development of cutting-edge technology, contracting international engineering projects, exporting complete plants and equipment, and conducting international economic and technical cooperation.

The visit has resulted in offers for partnership from both companies.

“At home or abroad, ACI will continue to pursue opportunities that will allow us to advance business and communities through our various projects, as well as put us on track tobeing the contractor of choice by completing projects on time, on budget, safely, and within specifications,” Aboitiz said.
