Cebu City, Philippines – The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) underscores the critical importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in shaping the future of the economies. With a focus on fostering inclusive economic growth, ABAC strives to promote a climate of cooperation, knowledge exchange, and joint efforts among economies.

Recognizing the pressing need for collaborative approaches to address the complex challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region, ABAC aims to ensure sustainable economic growth, promote innovation, and achieve inclusive development through joint efforts.

Tomas Alcantara, Director of Alsons Consolidated Resources, Inc., and chairman of ABAC Philippines, highlights the shared responsibility of stakeholders in shaping the future of every economy across the Asia-Pacific region. Alcantara emphasizes, “It is not just the government’s obligation, it is not just the private sector’s duty – the future is everyone’s business, and everyone has a vital role to play in this shared enterprise.”

The upcoming ABAC III meeting presents a crucial opportunity for ABAC and its stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and devise strategic approaches to address pressing issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Gathering representatives from the 21 APEC economies, ABAC aims to foster an environment conducive to dialogue, idea-sharing, and innovative solutions.

Building upon the accomplishments and discussions of previous meetings, the third leg of this year’s ABAC meeting will specifically highlight the vital contribution of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to the global economy. Additionally, the changing landscape of environment, social, and governance (ESG) investing will be emphasized.

Aboitiz Group president and CEO Sabin Aboitiz, a member of ABAC Philippines and Vice Chair of the ABAC Sustainable Growth Working Group said, “Our mission is clear: to address climate change, ensure energy security and sustainability, and foster sustainable food systems. Our collective efforts are centered around building a brighter future for our planet and our people.

“Through innovative strategies and collaborative public-private partnerships, we aim to create a world where economic progress goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility. Our commitment to sustainable growth is unwavering, as we recognize that only by working together can we achieve a harmonious balance between human development and the preservation of our precious natural resources. Let us rise to the challenge and forge a path towards a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come,” Aboitiz added.

ABAC is proud to host the highly anticipated ABAC III meeting at the NuStar Convention Center, Cebu’s newest premier 5-star integrated resort, from July 27 to 30, 2023. The convention center’s state-of-the-art facilities and central location provide an ideal venue for the gathering of over 200 delegates and distinguished guests representing the 21 APEC economies.

ABAC Philippines looks forward to a productive meeting that strengthens collaboration and propels the Asia-Pacific region towards a sustainable and inclusive future.
