1,500 Aboitiz team members join forces for Brigada Eskwela 2016

The Aboitiz Group heeded the government’s call for volunteers and rallied close to 1,500 team members nationwide among 27 business units for its annual groupwide Brigada Eskwela activity this year.

In Manila, over 300 volunteers from Aboitiz Aviation, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Aboitiz Foundation, AboitizLand, AboitizPower, Pilmico, SN Aboitiz Power, Therma Luzon, WeatherPhilippines, and PETNET took time off from work to repaint the interior and exterior walls, ceilings, doors, blackboards, window grills, desks, and windows of 12 classrooms at Tipas Elementary School in Taguig City last June 4. They were also joined by several Aboitiz scholars and Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit alumni.

In Cebu, Visayan Electric Co., Inc. gathered 100 volunteers (team members, their dependents, media, and teachers) for the utility’s Brigada Eskwela last May 21 at Balud Elementary School in San Fernando. City Savings Bank, meanwhile, gathered 621 team members across bank branches nationwide for its Brigada Eskwela last May 23,May 30 and June 4, conducted among 268 schools (179 in Luzon, 58 in Visayas, and 31 in Mindanao).

“Brigada Eskwela is also among the wide-ranging education-related programs of the Aboitiz Foundation. It supports our aim to build a better learning environment that inspires our students to do well. On a larger perspective, we do this because of our strong belief that education is a vital component in nation-building and it is where we can create the greatest impact,” said Luis Miguel Aboitiz, AboitizPower Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Business Group.

Brigada Eskwela is the Department of Education’s annual classroom rehabilitation program conducted in public schools nationwide. The Aboitiz Group, recognized last year by DepEd as the Philippine’s biggest contributor to public education, has long been an active supporter and participant of this activity as part of the Group’s team member engagement programs since 2008.
