Aboitiz Group turns over construction materials to typhoon victims
Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz group, together with Pilmico and AP Renewables, Inc. (APRI), recently turned over various construction materials to the local government of Albay in the Bicol province to help families heavily affected by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses rebuild their homes.
The donation includes 3, 315 galvanized iron sheets, 600 kilograms of umbrella nails, and 445 pouches of elastomeric sealants for distribution to 287 severely affected families-beneficiaries in the five local government units in the 2nd District of Albay.
“Project Rebuild” is part of the Arise Albay: Rehabilitation Phase (Typhoons Quinta-Rolly-Ulysses), an initiative of Albay 2nd District Congressman Joey Salceda in partnership with various agencies and stakeholders to help victims of calamities get back on their feet.
“We are thankful that there are organizations like Aboitiz who generously, and without much solicitation, offer to provide much needed materials for the repair of damaged properties. Its kind assistance would enable our unfortunate constituents to overcome the difficulties of surviving, and hopefully to be able to move on on their own,” Rep. Salceda said.
The Aboitiz Foundation launched “Project Rebuild” through its crowdsourcing platform ‘KINDer by Aboitiz’ to help raise funds for the campaign. Organizations like SGV Foundation heeded the call and donated additional Php500,000 for the Project Rebuild in Catanduanes.
“We in Aboitiz Foundation try our best to help the communities affected by typhoons like Rolly and Ulysses. We want to see the communities rise from the aftermath of these disasters, because we share in the local government’s desire for the families to rebuild back better. And we thank our local partners, the Aboitiz business units, who came together to extend valuable assistance,” said Aboitiz Foundation President and COO Maribeth L. Marasigan.
As of December 14, “Project Rebuild” was able to raise Php 445,900. A total of Php 6.2M were donated by the Aboitiz group for relief efforts in Albay, Batangas, Catanduanes, and Oriental Mindoro which were heavily affected by Typhoon Rolly.
