In Euromoney’s Asian best companies poll in its December 2002 issue, AEV ranked No. 2 for best small company in Asia while UBP was at No. 3. In Asiamoney’s best-managed companies poll in its December 2002-January 2003 issue, AEV ranked No. 2 for best small company in the Philippines, then followed by UBP at No. 3. Asiamoney’s “best small companies” refer to those with market capitalization of not more than US$500 million.
In the Euromoney 2002 poll, UnionBank also ranked in three other categories: In the Asian Banking/Finance category, the bank ranked No. 7 in a field of 11 Asian banks, the lone Philippine bank that made it in this category. In the Country category, UBP ranked No. 3 in the Philippines. In the Best Website category, it was No. 8 among 12 Asian companies.
The Euromoney ranking is based on a survey among market analysts for banks and research institutes in Asia. Respondents nominated the top three companies based on market strength, growth potential, and quality of management and earnings. Asiamoney respondents included fund managers, chief investment officers and research heads of fund management firms in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and North America.
