UnionBank Recognized for Excellence in Fund Management
June 7, 2010UnionBank was acknowledged as having the Best Medium Term Philippine Peso Bond Fund during the recently held 2010 Lipper Fund Awards. The Bank’s Philippine Peso Bond Portfolio, a unit investment trust fund managed by the Trust and Investment Services Group (TISG), was able to consistently deliver strong risk-adjusted performance relative to peers. The fund was the best among 14 funds evaluated under the Lipper Leader Rating System.

Aboitiz Equity to increase ownership in City Savings Bank
March 10, 2010Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) plans to increase, directly and through a subsidiary, its ownership in Cebu-based thrift bank City Savings Bank (CSB) to 100% from the current 34%. The AEV Board approved the proposal for the planned purchase at its regular meeting on Wednesday (March 10). The additional acquisition is conditional upon regulatory approval for the transaction.
UnionBank in 3-Peat Win of PRSP Anvil Award of Excellence
March 1, 2010UnionBank received recognition with an Anvil Award of Excellence for its Annual Report 2008 during the 45th Anvil Awards of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) held at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. This annual award is known to be the “Oscars” of public relations. Dr. Cayetano Paderanga, a former socio-economic planning chief and a UP economics professor is the award’s chairman of the 32-member Board of Jurors.
UnionBank Net Income Hits a Record High of Php4.3B in 2009
February 15, 2010UnionBank of the Philippines beat market expectations, posting a record net income of Php4.3 billion for the year 2009, more than double the Php2.1 billion the Bank earned in 2008. The net income was on top of the Php2.0 billion provided for impairment losses which made all non-performing loans of the Bank more than 100% covered. Return on equity and return on assets, were at highs of 14.6% and 1.9%, respectively.
UnionBank 1H 2009 Net Income rises 83% to P2.2 bn
August 11, 2009UnionBank’s first semester 2009 net income surged by 83% to P2.2 billion (bn) from P1.2 bn in the same period last year. This was a result of the remarkable gains in its treasury business and sustained growth in interest earnings.
UnionBank and Aboitiz Foundation provide values books to elementary schools
November 7, 2008UnionBank of the Philippines, in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., conducted an Orientation & Training on “As A Filipino” Learning System” last November 6 at the Ecotech Center in Cebu City. UnionBank and the Foundation designed the whole-day activity to introduce teaching methods on Philippine values education to 665 Grade II teachers and school officials from 168 public elementary schools in Metro Cebu divisions of the Department of Education.
UnionBank awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certification
October 31, 2008UnionBank has achieved another milestone in the Philippine banking industry by being the first and only local bank in the country to be awarded the ISO 2001:9000 Quality Management System (QMS) Certification for its centralized backroom operations.
